First, I’d like to say that from a Texas suburb you and your Toucans seem to be living quite the life! I am an animal lover with two dogs and an Eclectus parrot. We are thinking about adding a toucan to the family. I’d like your opinion if that is a good or selfish idea. We have a small garden home – I would be able to build a large cage, but nothing like the outdoor aviary I see in your videos and website. I have plenty of time to dedicate to a new bird…I would like to add value to a toucan’s life, not take away. Your opinion is appreciated.
Thank you for your note! I apologize for the delayed reply, for some reason, this went into my spam folder. I’d be more than happy to answer your questions about toucan ownership, though email would probably be the better forum for that, so we can get into more detail. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org . 🙂
In my opinion, I do not recommend the larger species of toucans (such as my Tocos) as pets for MANY reasons. They require a ton of space, if housed responsibly, is one big reason. Perhaps for your situation, if you really have your heart set on a toucan, one of the smaller species (such as an aracari), might be better suited to your space and lifestyle. Please feel free to email me directly if I can assist you further. Best wishes to you! ~ Chrissann & the Cans
